INTERVIEW

  1. Do you use any specific pedagogical model to teach?

No, not one specifically but I try to combine some aspects from different pedagogical models.

When we  want to guide students to the knowledge,  we must create an appropriate environment, applying some strategies with certain characteristics, that is why I choose  different  aspects  from several pedagogical  models,  such Behaviorism , Constructivism  and Social Criticism.

  1. Why do you think that it is the best way to teach?

I think that is the  best way to teach   because,   there are some  important   aspects     from   each pedagogical  models which  can provide  me different  approaches in  the  learning process.   for instance: from the Constructivism Model  I am used  to  apply activities in order to give students  some tools to  create new knowledge by themselves;  from the   Behaviorism  Model  I have taken   those  aspects or strategies that  are  focused  to create  routines and  to develop values such as  respect,   order,  self-control,  and responsibility  among  others,   And   finally there is also the  Social Criticism model that  provides strategies  to  recognize  the context in a  reflexive  way.

  1. What is your class methodology?

My  class  methodology  is focused in students’ performance during the whole class,   sometimes  the work is based on activities from the notebook or done in the book; where grammar  or vocabulary are developed;   other times the activities are based  on  the communicative competence, that is why, it is frequently common to implement short dialogs or monologues in class .  So, my class methodology is a developmental methodology.

  1. How do you develop the skills in class?

I usually develop the four skills through several communicative activities, where students can be exposed to authentic and semi authentic materials giving them the possibility to apply what they have previously learned in and out of the classroom.

  1. What do you think about class work and homework?

I think class work is very important to get students involved into the all linguistic aspects; such as vocabulary, grammar and rhythm and intonation.  Class work is fundamental for their knowledge increasing and it has more impact in their learning process because students from this part of the country  are not very exposed to the language  and some of their families do not  consider English as a very important part of their process, so families accuracy is not the best;  that  is why I  choose a developmental method teaching  focused  in  work class  than  homework. On the other hand, homework is important for those students who are interested in continue being exposed to the language. I also think homework is just assigned in order to improve and increase students’ responsibly, creativity, and research strategies.

  1. How is your evaluation methodology?

My evaluation methodology is based, mainly, in those activities or strategies in which the communicative competence   is shown, taking into consideration the learning process of each student.

  1. How do you plan your classes?

The way I plan my classes is according to the school parameters,   taking into account the number of hour per week,  the groups and  students’ proficiency level so I plan my classes   using content based,   divided into three important  periods  during the term called “pre”, “while” and “post”.

  1. How do you manage discipline in class?

I control the discipline with class work, as I previously said, I use  a developmental methodology that, not only gives students the opportunity to interact with the language during the entire  class, but it helps to control discipline.

Additionally,  there are some  strategies that I apply in class to  control the discipline; for instant:  the  parameters  of the classes have to be clear,  the voice tone has to  be used  in a moderate way;  not too high,  no too  low.   When the students misbehave I always control myself, and speak calmly and respectfully.

Additionally, due to the school model, which is Conductivism;   teachers have some parameters to control students’ behavior, like class planning, direct prayers at the beginning and at the end of class due to the fact that school has a religious approaching, control also students’ performance during civil acts trying to keep them on their own rows when students have to move  from place to another,   and  also to control some routines when  teachers arrive the classroom (students should stand up each  time a teacher arrives greeting them appropriately;  the success of all these different situations basically depend on teachers’ class management.

  1. What do you think about learning process?

Learning process is something subjective and it definitely depends on school rules and approaches. The implementation of strategies depend on teachers’ believes but it is also important to take into consideration students’ needs.

  1. How do you think an English class should be?

English should be taught by teachers with such a great proficiency level who can have the capacity to teach whole class in the foreign language. English should also be as important as certain subjects such as maths or science and schools should be equipment with labs and updated materials to guarantee and to facilitate students’ learning process. I also think government should implement better programs in order to make English a fundamental subject not only in school but also in universities
